A little of this and that

Just popping in to say another big, humongous THANK YOU to everyone who helped with Imaginable‘s cover reveal on Monday. You all are the BEST! Seriously. (Also, I am SO EXCITED that I finally get to start putting it on the left there!) (Yes, I am easily excited.)

Also, and totally unrelated, from time to time I’m going to be posting on writing and publishing over at a fantastic new site called Pen & Muse. It is the brainchild of the lovely and very Muse-like Kristen Jett and Jolene Haley. (If you have any interest AT ALL in writing or publishing, you should totally check out Pen & Muse. And follow them on Twitter: @penandmuse. The Muses tweet links to great writing/publishing articles from all over the web on a daily basis.)

Today my intro piece is up at Pen & Muse and it’s about how I came to be writing fiction (because I am not a born writer—someone who grew up writing, dreaming of writing, or always telling stories…nope, that wasn’t me at all) as well as why I chose to go indie rather than traditional. If you’d like to read it, it’s here.

It’s March!! Which means it’s practically Spring, right? (Right? Please?) (Okay, it’s probably Spring SOMEWHERE, but not in central NY. Sigh.) (Yes, I may in fact already be suffering from Spring Fever.)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Cover Reveal: Imaginable

Before I show you the cover, let me tell you what Imaginable is about.

Twins Sera and Luke Raine’s unusual abilities are growing. Sera is healing vampires now, making them human again. And, at times, Luke can actually change the future he Sees.

But Sera’s healing has dangerous consequences, and though Luke is altering the outcome of more visions, he can’t control them yet.

Now Sera is in danger as the dark creatures of the Realm seek to use her. As Luke struggles to master his gift in order to save his sister, he discovers even more about his powers.

And what he learns just may put him in greater danger than Sera has ever been.

(That new thing Luke learns about his gift? So. Freaking. Cool. I can’t wait for you to read it!)

Okay! Here it is, my friends, the cover of Imaginable, coming out in April 2013. The wait is almost over!

Imaginable is now on Goodreads! Go check it out and, if you’re so inclined, add it to your to-read shelf—it’ll look SO PRETTY there. ;-)

Also if you’d like to join the DELIRIOUSLY lucky people on my New Release Mailing List, you’ll be the first to know when Imaginable comes out. I never share email addresses, and I only send out emails when a book has been released or is newly available. If you want in, sign up here!

And have a RIDICULOUSLY fantastic week!

Book News and a Flying Golf Ball

FIRST, and I’m SO EXCITED about this (can you tell?)…Imaginable has a cover! :D :D And you’ll get to see it on Monday, February 25! :D :D I’m still taking bloggers who want to participate, so if you haven’t emailed me yet that you’re in, EMAIL ME!

—>j AT jmeyersbooks DOT com<—

I cannot WAIT to show it to you!

SECOND, I’m going to be sending Imaginable to my betas SOON which means we are getting closer and closer to a release. April is looking GOOD and I have my eye on a date, but am keeping it to myself until I’m sure we can make it. Cross your fingers for me, will you? :-)

THIRD, and TOTALLY UNRELATED, Joe Hanson (@jtotheizzoe on Twitter), who has a fantastic site that features the most interesting science-related things on Earth at www.itsokaytobesmart.com (go check it out, you won’t be sorry), tweeted the coolest video of a golf ball hitting a steel plate at 150mph. I had NO IDEA a golf ball could do this. NO IDEA! (It’s only 29 seconds long. Take a peek. You’ll be amazed…unless, of course, you knew this already. ;-)

Have a great day, my friends!

A Teasing Sort of Valentine

We don’t really celebrate Valentine’s day here—neither Steve nor I have ever been really big on it. Honestly it was always a holiday that made me feel bad growing up because I NEVER had a Valentine. I never dated in high school and didn’t have a real boyfriend until my senior year of college. So I got in a LOT of years of feeling left out and sad on Valentine’s day.

And once I had found my TRUE Valentine (yes, I am talking about Steve) I just wasn’t into it. It’s not like I was suddenly all hearts and flowers about Valentine’s day just because I’d found my soulmate, you know? It’s hard to support a day that makes people feel bad or alone or sad if they’re not a part of a couple. This is not to say I’m anti-Valentine’s day—I don’t feel that strongly about it. I just don’t particularly pay attention to it.

But my kids have gotten into the spirit of it this year with some decor for the house. (They regularly put up decorations for holidays/seasons. We made snowflakes and taped them ALL OVER the house this winter (and in previous winters). They’ve drawn monsters and ghosts and signs that said “Boo!” and taped them in hidden and obvious places at Halloween. I love that. I love that they draw things and then hang them up on the walls as decoration ANYWHERE in the house. It makes the place theirs too, you know?)

And they’ve been writing sweet notes of love too—something I’ve done for them on past Valentine’s days. (I have to write some notes for tomorrow because I do like to tell them how much I love them any and every day, and I don’t see any good reason not to do it tomorrow too. And written on a heart-shaped piece of paper. Making our own Valentine’s traditions where the day is more a celebration of EVERYONE you love—not simply your sweetheart, if you have one—feels like a worthwhile thing to do.)

All these hearts everywhere are putting me in the mood for a sweet teaser from Imaginable. So this is my love note for you:

“Can I ask you something now?” Luke teased.

Fey laughed, shook her head. “No.”

“What if it’s a really good question?”

“Still no.”

He leaned toward her, his eyes on her lips. “Seriously. It’s also not a difficult question. It’s not like I’m going to ask you the square root of five thousand six hundred twenty-eight.”

“Seventy-five point zero two, rounded to the nearest hundredth.” Her eyes were now on his lips.

“Really?” Luke said. Beautiful and freakishly brainy? He was fairly certain he might burst into flame at any moment.

Also? I LOVE you people. And I hope that you ALL feel loved. Today and EVERY day. :-) Have a great weekend, everyone.

You know, the lovely people on my New Release Mailing List are the first to find out when a new book comes out. If you’d like to join them, sign up here. I won’t ever share your address, and I’ll only email you when a book has been released or is newly available.

The Wrap-Up

1. First, I wanted to tell you about a few good books I’ve come across lately. Young Adult: The Princesses of Iowa by M. Molly Backes, North of Beautiful by Justina Chen, and Out of Reach (a National Book Award finalist of 2012) by Carrie Arcos. (That last one is definitely for the older teen crowd, though.)

New Adult (which are all written for late teen and up): Hopeless by Colleen Hoover, Something Like Normal by Trish Dollar, and Losing It by Cora Carmack. And I’m in the midst of Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park, which is cute. If you all have any recommendations for good NA, please tell me in the comments! I’m on the lookout.

2. In Book News: I am narrowing down the cover design and will have something pretty to show you at the end of the month. I’ve been collecting names of bloggers who’re going to help in the cover reveal, which is VERY exciting for me. I’m so glad you guys want to be a part of this! (And if any of you want in, but haven’t emailed me yet…email me! j AT jmeyersbooks DOT com)

3. Does it count as book news if I tell you that I’m pushing for a April release for Imaginable? I don’t have a date yet (because I don’t want to have to change it) but I have all my fingers and toes crossed that Imaginable will be released in April. YAY! SO excited. :D (And also like this —> O_O because April isn’t very far away.)

4. Speaking of which, I should probably get back to work on it. And since it’s supposed to look like this later today:

I should get plenty of time. :-)

I hope you ALL have the loveliest of weekends!

Teaser Tuesday: First Imaginable Excerpt!

Okay, you guys! I promised I’d start torturing teasing you with excerpts and here we go! The very first excerpt from Imaginable. (Also, just fyi: I am working toward an April release and should have a bright, shiny cover to show you later this month. YAY! When I have dates I’ll tell you.)

IN THE MEANTIME, check out this first glimpse of Imaginable.

Jonas’ head whipped up toward the house. Adrian was shouting as humans reached for vampires and then disappeared together. Jonas teleported inside and found himself staring directly into Adrian’s dark blue eyes. Blue? Jonas thought. All vampires had deadblack eyes.

And then it hit him—Adrian was no longer a vampire.

Adrian took hold of the vampire next to him, smiled at Jonas, and disappeared.

The house was completely empty, the silence loud in the sudden absence of chaos.

“Sera, what have you done?” Jonas said to no one. Then he gripped his blade in one hand and focused his mind. “Sequi,” he whispered. Follow. And he was gone.

He was going after them. They wouldn’t get away that easily.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Coolness

If this isn’t the coolest thing you’ve ever seen…well, then, you lead a much more exciting life than I do. ;-)

(Thanks to Steve for the link.)

And just because I don’t think it’s possible to watch too many dry ice bubble experiments, check this out too. (Also? I want some dry ice! This would be TOO much fun. My kids would LOVE it.) (Okay, who am I kidding? *I* would love it!)

Happy Wednesday, my friends!

The (book news!) Wrap-Up

Sorry I’ve been absent this week. I’ve had my nose so deep in Imaginable edits (all while trying to stay warm on these single digit days) that I’ve hardly done anything else. But I have some things I want to tell you.

1. First, I just have to say that I am totally falling in love with Imaginable, you guys, and I cannot WAIT to get it into your hands. I think I’m going to have to start posting teasers from it pretty soon (which I KNOW is a special kind of torture/pleasure…and that just makes it FUN).  SOON, my pretties, I’ll be torturing you. >:-) Who knows, maybe even next week…

2. I’m on the look out for book bloggers who are interested in being a part of the cover reveal for Imaginable. I’m trying to narrow down a date…sometime in February…so if you’re interested in doing the cover reveal, please shoot me an email at “j AT jmeyersbooks DOT com” so I can gather you all in one place and have your email addresses at the ready. (Also, do any of you know if there is a special day of the week for cover reveals? Like I know Tuesdays are when new books come out…is there a usual cover reveal day? I’ve been trying to figure this out and if you know, please tell me in the comments!)

3. I still have not narrowed down a date for Imaginable‘s release. I know, I know! I’m sorry. I wish I could tell you, but at this point, I’m just not sure how much more editing work needs to go into it and it has yet to get to my beta readers. I’m hoping for sometime in March (probably later in the month than sooner) but we may be looking at April. I wish it wasn’t taking so. darn. long…but I want it to be perfect for you guys. As perfect as I can make it. :-)

4. I will tell you a little secret, though. I’m already dreaming up ideas for the next book I write…which is not—gasp!—going to be in the Intangible series. (I will come back to it, I PROMISE, I just want to try something different first—either start a new series or write a stand-alone. But I swear there are at least 1 or 2 more books after Imaginable and I WILL write them.)

I’ve been reading (and LOVING) a whole pile of New Adult books lately, and I think I’m going to write a contemporary NA (and I’m REALLY excited about that!). I have these bright, shiny new ideas bouncing around in my mind that I have to keep jotting down and pushing away until I finish Imaginable. (Which is HARD because, well, you know, they’re BRIGHT and SHINY and NEW. But I’m sort of looking at the next book as being the reward I get after I polish up Imaginable all pretty.)

That’s all for me. I hope you have the loveliest of weekends, my friends. Stay WARM. I will be huddling near the woodstove the entire time, I’m sure. :-)

Snow Pile

I woke up to movie snow this morning—flakes floating through the air as if the prop department was shaking soap flakes over our house.

Snow-capped bird feeders (with a black capped chickadee)

It’s the kind of snow that sparkles.

Snow Pile
As
the
soft
flake
floats
betwixt
you and I
The clouds
form others
falling nearby
Each one lands
as a child smiles
Imagining playing
in the magical piles.

—SAK 1/18/13

Hope you all have a sparkly weekend. :-)

A Crush, Adorableness, and Love

I have a new musical crush, you guys. Take a listen to this. (It’s just audio, nothing to see, so really, the video player is working fine. Just listen.)

That’s Bruno Mars, who I hadn’t heard before. But, oh my, he can sing. One thing I love about this song is the retro feel to it—reminiscent of 50’s and 60’s songs and I just love music from those decades. I’ve spent the last several days listening to one after another of his songs on YouTube…and now I’m wishing I had an mp3 player again. (Someday!)

Also, while newly-stalking Bruno, I stumbled across this adorable duet by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt singing one of my favorite holiday songs. It’s just too cute—you really must see it.

But I have to say this version of the song is my FAVORITE.

I’m a HUGE Diana Krall fan. She just…goodness she can put a song across like no one else.  I mean, not only can she SING, but she also has such a way of expressing each song. It’s amazing. The woman is TALENTED. Plus, she sings a lot of big band type songs that were really written for singers. You know? When Nat King Cole and Sinatra were at their peaks the songs written then were created to highlight the voice. Most songs today are not written like that (which is probably why she picks the old songs…because she has a voice that should be highlighted). Sigh. I love her (if you couldn’t tell.)

:-)

Hope your week is going well, my friends!
