We had a really cool visitor to our yard this week:
(That’s a pileated woodpecker, and it’s HUGE.)
(And isn’t that a cool piece of wood? It’s from a neighbor’s tree that came down in a storm and it was too big to chop into firewood by hand, so it frames one corner of our butterfly garden. I LOVE that funky chunk of wood.)
Have a great weekend, everyone!

that’s awesome! both the bird and the wood, I love old gnarled chunks, they have character like old people’s faces do :).
They do have so much character. It would make a GREAT coffee table (if we could pick it up and move it) or a desk (if we had a way to slice it thinner). :-)
I heard our neighborhood pileated pair the other day but haven’t seen them.
He clearly loves that chunk of wood too :)
Oh, yes. He was all over it. I’m hoping he’ll come back for more!
Awesome shot of the woodpecker! Agree! The wood is very cool!
Here is my last “old beach moments” and next week I will post a NEW one! http://likemamalikedaughter.blogspot.com/2012/05/this-moment_24.html
Have a great holiday weekend!
